A Little Update from CPH

Hi everyone, it has been quite some time from my last post and I have not been writing on my blog that much as I am just not feeling so happy these past months here in Copenhagen, DK. I am really longing to go back to my own Country. Also my best mates, Sue and Tom have recently left us and have moved back to Vancouver! Lucky ducks! We were very sad to see them go. Sue and I still chat daily on msn and I give them a call sometimes, but it is hard not having them in the country with us. I will really miss our dinners and get togethers! Also the 9 hour time difference between us is quite difficult. Oh well, one day we will be home soon again.

Anyways enough of my complaining, here is a bit of my news: I was recently away on a little trip to Iceland. My husband was there for some business and I went to join him for a long weekend. It was an interesting trip and the country was much more different than I imagined. I thought there would be many cute little harbours like Peggy's Cove or like the ones in Gaspe and NewFoundland. The harbour in Reykjavik had little to be desired and I was not impressed with it at all. I thought it was quite ugly. The city was small and quaint. However, for a small city they sure did have some beautiful shops and some good restaurants. We ate some wonderful scampi’s at a very nice “cozy” restaurant one night.

For spring the weather was quite cold and extremely windy. After visiting the entire city, we decided to rent a car and tour around some of the island. There are so many tours one can do by car, or by bus, etc, but it is quite vast and many of the tours take like 10 hours or more. So we did the golden circle tour which took us about 7 hours. It was long and driving around some of the country side was a strange experience as there are hardly any trees in Iceland as it is basically a volcano. It is very barren and there are volcanic rocks all over. It really felt like I was visiting another planet...lol. On our tour we saw some geysers and beautiful waterfalls. One of my highlights of the trip was to swim in the Blue Lagoon - the Thermal Baths. We stopped at the lagoon on our way to the airport. Most of the tourists do this on their way home as it 20 mins away from the airport. The water is so warm and a magnificent blue in color. I tell you , we felt so refreshed after our swim.

It is also a very expensive in Iceland as everything costs a small fortune. A coffee and beer was almost 24$ Cdn. A very plain hamburger at a pub was almost $30.00. Overall, I am glad I went but I don’t think I would go back. These country, vast wilderness tours are really not to my liking. I rather go to Monte Carlo or Italy - Porto Fino. And also coming from Canada, we are quite spoiled with a beautiful, large, wilderness country with much cheaper prices.

I might most them on my msn spaces.

A Trip to Berlin
Then my in-laws were here for a visit and we took them to Berlin to celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary. They had a great time. It was my first time to Berlin and it was very interesting. We stayed at the Westin Grand in the old East part. The grandious hotel for the Soviets. It was very nice and decorated in old Vienna decor. The staff were also very friendly. It felt so strange to have nice service. It has been a long time that we were treated so nicely as the service here in Copenhagen is often really poor!

Overall Berlin was worth a visit but in my opinion it is never as grandious and nice as Paris and London. I could imagine before it was bombed in world war II it must have been impressive. But one can see that Berlin is really changing and they are constantly rebuilding, and modeling the city since the collapse of the wall in 1989. There is also lots of great shopping in the city and I was told a great night life. We did not have a chance to do any clubbing on this trip. I really loved the big department store KaDeWe...which is similar to Harrods in London. They have a super food courts and restaurants on the top floor. So that is my news. My in laws have left and I am back to my studio working on my next project. You can see what I am up to by visiting my studio blog. Wishing you all a great week!

What a great reportage of your Iceland and Berlin trip. I have enjoyed reading it. Herman was in Iceland (when with the Navy), so I had heard how it is, or was, over there. It's a pity you can't transfer to Antwerp. You would like it better than Denmark !
Ciao Bella !
